'Sir William Saint Clair', was a leader of a rebellion against 'Edward I' of England. By marriage the family also obtained the earldom of Orkney, and in 1379 'Sir Henry Sinclair', was created prince of Orkney by 'King Hakone' of Norway. His grandson ceded his rights over the Orkneys to 'James III' of Scotland.
