Es originario de la isla de Menorca y tuvo su muy antiguo solar en Ciudadela. Su primitivo escudo de armas se encuentra esculpido en varios sepulcros de esta familia existentes en la catedral de Ciudadela y figura también en hacheros del mismo templo y de la igleisa de Franciscanos de la misma ciudad. Se tiene como progenitor de este linaje a Bernardo de S., que fué uno de los más valientes capitanes que ayudaron al Rey don Alfonso III de Aragón en la conquista de Menorca en el año 1287. Andando los tiempos, aparecen como descendientes suyos los siguientes: Pedro de S., que era uno de los Jurados generales de dicha isla en 1430, y Juan de S., Procurador Real de Menorca en 1475. El Capitán Juanote de S., "domicellus", Bayle General de Menorca en 1553, combatió heroicamente en Túnez y en Perpiñán. Y en 1558 en la plaza de Ciudadela en la triste y memorable jornada del 9 de Julio del citado año, quedando cautivo y conducido por los turcos a Constantinopla con varios miembros de su familia, viéndose obligado a emplear en su rescate casi todo su patrimonio. Murió en 1591, y agradecida su patria a los grandes servicios que le había prestado, dió nombre a una de las calles de Ciudadela con el Juanote de S. En 1637 obtuvo el honorífico empleo de "domicellus" Jerónimo de S., y dos años más tarde era Capitán de una compañía de cien infantes encargada de la defensa de la plaza de Ciudadela. ...
