I Sormani in quell'epoca erano mercanti, e come tali sono specialmente indicati i figli di Giuseppe, Giambattista e Pietro. Quest'ultimo sarebbe ascritto all'arte della seta, e nel 1732 ebbe dalla Comunità la concessione di una bottega in Piazza Grande a titolo di livello fino alla quarta generazione.
