Antica ed assai nobile famiglia svizzera, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa. Originaria della Germania, ove godette nobiltà sin da tempi antichissimi - si ricordi il cavaliere Hermann Staub che fiorì in Gießen nel 1323 - un ramo di essa si portò in Svizzera nel XVI secolo e, più precisamente, nel Canton Zurigo. Hans Staub, infatti, nel 1555 fu creato cittadino di Dübendorf. Si ricordino anche: Friedrich Staub, dottor di legge, fiorente in Dübendorf nel 1587; Jacob Staub, proprietario terriero, fiorente in Dübendorf nel 1600; Heinrich Staub, cavaliere, fiorente nel 1662; Johann Staub, giurista, fiorente in Zurigo nel 1769; Hans Staub, proprietario terriero, fiorente nel 1791; Ignatius Staub (19 dicembre 1872 - 29 marzo 1947), benedettino, abate del monastero di Einsiedeln.
