According to what has been handed down, the family came to Tortona from Pavia (Lombardy), in very ancient times. Already in 1122, when the municipality of Tortona was established, the Torti or Storti participated in it, thus consolidating the ordering of the magistrates and their jurisdictional powers; with this act Tortona definitively withdrew from the imperial authority, and the members of these families were given the honorary attribute of "De Civitate Terdona".
