Antichissima ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno di Napoli, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Sulla sua prima origine, divergono gli antichi testi: alcuni vogliono che sia un ramo del casato spagnolo Tartagliones, altri, più pittoreschi, narrano che nel XIII secolo, durante i Vespri siciliani per scovare gli Angioini, che non avevano ancora abbandonato l’isola, fu imposto loro di pronunciare la parola “cicero” che i francesi non sapevano pronunciare e, fingendosi balbuzienti per non essere scoperti, furono soprannominati “Tartaglioni”. Secondo questa origine, una loro colonia sarebbe emigrata nella pianura capuana, da cui la probabile origine dei Tartaglione di Marcianise.
