Originaria di Barcellona di Spagna, stabilita nel Reame di Napoli nel XVI secolo con Domenico, comandante del Castello di Cotrone, e morto nella difesa di quel Castello, nel 1528. Decorata del titolo di conte anteriormente a detta epoca; riconosciuta di antica nobiltà nel 1538, e dichiarata nobile fuori Seggio, in Napoli, nel 1767. Con D.M. 22 settembre 1889 e 14 luglio 1891 fu riconosciuta nel titolo di conte per i maschi e nel predicato di Montebello. Con RR. LL. PP. del 26 luglio 1901 e 12 giugno 1902 i germani duca di Capracotta Giovanni e conte Giacomo vennero riconosciuti nel titolo di marchese (maschi e femmine). Altro ramo.
