Nobility crown VerninTrès ancienne famile de robe du Forez, dont le nom primitif était Vernin. Elle remonte sa filiation suivie à Pierre Vernin, juge de Forez à la fin du XIVème siècle, personnage fort riche et considéré, qualifié toutefois à tort de chevalier et de seigneur de Cremeaux. Ce Pierre Vernin, après avoir fait de multiples acquisitions en Forez, épousa Catherine de Mars. Leurs decsendants, seigneurs de Cremeaux, ne tardèrent point à figurer dans les rangs de la noblesse, où ils occupèrent une place des plus distinguées. L'un d'eux, Antoine seigneur de Cremeaux, Chamousset, St-Germain-Laval, chevalier de l'ordre de St-Michel, s'établit en Velay le 10 mars 1560, à la suite de son mariage avec Françoise de Prunet, dame du Bets, Uffarges, la Branchade, les Terrasses, etc. Il acquit en 1587, de son beau-frère, Louis, écuyer, seigneur de Goys, Fougerolles, la terre de Mons près St-Georges-l'Agricol et sa postérité fut maintenue dans sa noblesse, par jugement souverain de 1668. Viennent ensuite: cinq chanoines comtes de Brioude (1465-1619); un chevalier de St-Jean de Jérusalem, grand prieur d'Auvergne, général des galères de la Religion (1579); quatre chanoines-comtes de Lyon (1588-1636); des chevaliers de Malte; un député de la noblesse du Lyonnais (1614); un chevalier de l'Ordre du roi, gentilhomme ordinaire de sa chambre (1587); de nombreux officiers, parmi lesquels on distingue: un maréchal de camp et deux gouverneurs de Mâcon (1650-1679); un lieutenant général du Mâconnais (1745); un brigadier d'armée des gendarmes de la garde (1781). ...
