Noble linaje cuyo primitivo solar radicó en el lugar de V. (cuyo nombre tomó), del Ayuntamiento de San Millán y partido de Vitoria, (Álava). Es derivado de la casa de Herdoñana, y su fundador fué Sancho Sánchez de Herdoñana V. bravo soldado que se halló, como Capitán, en la batalla de las Navas de Tolosa y en la toma de Baeza, hijo de Sancho Sánchez de Heroñana y padres de Juan Sánchez de V. Este linaje que produjo muy claros varones, se extendió por España y pasó a Méijco Ecuador y Chile donde subisisten descendientes. El P. Gregorio López de V. hizo un extenso y nolable estudio de esta familia, asegurando que todas las ramas diseminadas por España y Américas proceden de un tronco común. Ya en 1539, según afirma en su "Nobleza Alavesa" Alfredo Basanta, Juan Sanz de V., vecino del lugar de Contrasta, del partido de Vitoria, promovió pleito sobre su hidalguía en el Concejo y Fiscal de S.M., probando ser hijo de Rui Sanz de V. y se su mujer doña Urraca de Langarica, y nieto de Juan Sánchez de V. y de doña María Fernández. Alcanzó sentencia de su favor el 7 de Julio de 1539. Pocos años después Juan Sanz de V. y Rodrigo de V. hicieron probanza ad perpetuam rei memoriam y demostraron ser hijo de Cristóbal Sáenz de V. y de su mujer doña Elvira García de V. y nietos de Rui Sanz de V. y de doña Urraca de Langarica, ya citados. En 1623 se hizo otra probanza de la misma clase por Juan Sáenz de V., vecino de Logroño, hijo de Juan Sáenz de V. Zuazo, Alcaide de la Inquisición de Logroño, ...
