Scrive di questa famiglia Saint Alleis, nel Nobiliaire de France 1876, nominando Jean o Janin, come primo signore de Ville, cavaliere, vivente nel 1149, ricordato pure dall'Abate di Verdun nel suo Cartulaire, art. 38. Un ramo di questa famiglia si portò in Italia con Savary de la Ville sur Illon, secondo figliuolo di Gilberto, e si stabilì a Quiners, in Piemonte. Ivi contrasse nobili parentele, e fu ricevuto nel S.M. Ordine di Malta; ebbe cavalieri nell'Ordine di San Maurizio ed un vescovo d'Ivrea. Si divise in tre linee principali: quella di Alsazia e di Napoli discende da Andrea, terzo del nome, conte de Ville, secondo figlio di Antonio (1530).
