Originario de la villa de Lidón, partido judicial de Montalbán (Teruel). Pasaron a Cataluña en el siglo XVIII. Pedro de I. Cuevas y Valero de Bernabé, natural de Lidón, contrajo matrimonio en Talarn (Lérida) con María de Borrell y de Copons, baronesa de Eroles. Su nieto, el teniente general don Joaquín de I. Cuevas y de Valonga, barón de Eroles, heredó en 1821 el título del reino de los Dos Sicilias, de marqués de la Cañada- I. La jefatura de esta casa es ostentada hoy por los condes del Valle de Merlés. El estudio del escudo heráldico familiar nos "habla" de quienes formaron el origen de la familia Y., pues esa era su función, la de manifestar a los demás sus elementos diferenciales, pues la inclusión del elemento árbol (roble, pino, ciprés) significa que la nobleza de la familia es antigua y va asociada con la benignidad y la perseverancia, virtudes supuestas de sus componentes.
