L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel personale latino, di derivazione greca, "Zacchaeus", appartenuto, probabilmente ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, la chiara nobiltà del casato è testimoniata dalla presenza della sua blasonatura, nella pregevole opera "L'Armorial General", di J.B. Rietstap. Ma, d'altronde, tal casato, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscito a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui ha dato i natali.
