Antica ed assai nobile famiglia piemontese, oriunda da Casale Monferrato, conosciuta come Zanotta o Zanotti, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia, con un cospicuo insediamento in Lombardia e più precisamente in Como, ove parimenti godette nobiltà. Tal casato venne nobilitato in persona dei fratelli Vincenzo, Bartolomeo ed Orazio, figli del notaio e segretario del Senato monferrino Francesco, i quali vennero infeudati di Valmacca il 1° giugno 1673. Estintosi Bartolomeo ed entrato in religione Orazio, Vincenzo, segretario ducale e questore del Magistrato, venne investito delle parti spettanti ai fratelli del feudo di Valmacca, con titolo comitale, il 22 febbraio 1698.
