Tradizione vuole che essa sia della medesima agnazione della nobile casata veronese Zini, nota ancor prima del XVI secolo e presente nei più importanti Armoriali. Tra le varianti del cognome Zini, infatti, si attestano: De Zinis, Zin, Zinà, Zinara, Zinati, Zinato, Zinelli, Zinello, Zino etc. Occorre notare che non sempre la forma originaria del cognome si manteneva intatta nei secoli con la sua primitiva grafia.
