Il ceppo fiorito a Garlasco, illustre per opere benefiche e per cariche pubbliche, è rappresentato attualmente dall'ingegner Giovanni, tecnico insigne nelle costruzioni ferroviarie, consigliere per oltre vent'anni di Garlasco alla deputazione provinciale di Pavia, introduttore animoso e avveduto nella Lomellina di nuovi metodi di coltura agraria e di irrigazioni; egli aggiunse il secondo cognome per successione alla nobile famiglia Pietra alla quale apparteneva la madre sua Edvige. La famiglia Pietra, originaria di Pavia, trasferitasi a Garlasco per la peste che infieriva in quella città, conta, fra i suoi uomini più illustri, due vescovi di Vigevano, Galeazzo, giureconsulto collegiato e senatore cesareo di Milano, e il nipote Maurizio.
