L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata, tramite forme dialettali, nell'accrescitivo del nome Pietro (Pedro), appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite.
