Etymological origin of Italian surname: Aini


Typical of Ozieri (SS) it is very rare, it derives from a dialectal modification of the name Gavino. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas AINI: uncertain meaning and etymology. It could derive from aìna = work tool of the artisans (is aìnas = the various instruments); or from àinu = donkey. Àinu in Logudoro, molenti in Campidano; or from àina, àxina = vine, grapes, from the Latin àcina; or again from aìna = oats, from the Latin avena; finally, we also consider the word àlinu = alno, alder, from the Latin alnus. It is not reflected in the ancient papers. Currently the surname Aini is present in 20 Italian Municipalities of which 10 in Sardinia: Ozieri 39, Berchidda 11, Sassari 6, Sinnai 3 Milis 3, etc.
