Amaolo is typical of southern Marche, of Sant'Elpidio a mare, Montegranaro and Porto San Giorgio in the Piceno, and of Civitanova Marche and Corridonia in the Macerata area, it should derive from the medieval name Amaulus in turn derived from the Provençal name Amaul.
