Brasca is a surname present in the whole of the continental part of Italy, it has its maximum concentration in the province of Milan and in the Lombardy provinces, but it is also present in a significant way in Piedmont, Liguria, Marche and Calabria, Braschi has stocks especially in Romagna and Tuscany, with good presence also in the Genoese, Bolognese, Roman and Foggia areas, Brasco is almost unique. The origin should be from the Gothic word brakia (struggle) through a nickname, or from an alteration of the medieval Germanic word * brahsinoo (cod), according to a recently arrived hypothesis, which can hardly be extended to all cases, it could also it is a derivation from the Lombard, Piedmontese and Ligurian dialect word brasca (embers, also a type of mushroom).
