Bucca is typically Sicilian, especially from Messina and Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto above all, from Messina, Milazzo, San Filippo del Mela, Merì, Terme Vigliatore, Pace del Mela and Falcone, with an important stock in Palermo and Mazara del Vallo Trapani, Bucchi is widespread in Bologna and Florence, in Romagna, northern Marche, Perugia and, above all, in Rome, Bucco has a stock in the Pordenone area and one in the Theatine area, Buccella has a stock in the lower Trentino area, one in the lower Brescia area, one in Pescara, L'Aquila and Rome and one in the Salerno area, Buccelli has a stock in the lower Brescia area, one in the Forlì area and one in the Neapolitan area, Buccello, almost unique, is southern, they should all derive from the medieval name Bucca or from its hypocoristic, but it is also possible a derivation from nicknames originating from particularly graceful or, on the contrary, exaggeratedly large forms of the progenitor's mouth.
