BUSCICCHI | BUSCICCHIA | BUSCICCHIO | BUSICCHIO

Both Buscicchi and Buscicchia are almost unique, Buscicchio is specific to Puglia, Lecce, Monopoli in the Bari area, Brindisi, Taranto and Foggia, Busicchio, absolutely rare, is almost certainly due to a transcription error of the previous one. additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi of origin arbëreshë, the surnames Buscicchio, Busicchio, etc. arise from the Italianization of the Albanian surname Bozhiqi, on whose meaning at least two hypotheses can be drawn. On the one hand, first of all, a connection with the Albanian toponymy and, in particular, with the town of Bozhiq or Bozhiqi (also known as Bardhaj), which is located in the prefecture of Lezhë, is not excluded. More probably, however, it should be noted that Bozhiqi should be a Slavic-Albanian surname - especially if we consider the suffix -iqi (typical Albanianization of the Slavic suffix -ić) - and, in this case, the most probable hypothesis is that it is of an adaptation of the Slavic surname Bozić, present from north to south of the former Yugoslavia (for a more detailed explanation, see Bozic).
