Carmignani, decidedly Tuscan, of the Florentine in particular, should derive from the toponym Carmignano (PO), but it is also possible a derivation from the Latin nomen Carminianus of which we have an example in Ulpius Carminianus Claudianus, who served under Marco Aurelio.
