Camarda seems specific of northern Sicily with a strain in Brindisi, the other two are quite rare and specific to the Matera area, with possible strains, probably secondary, in the Catania area and in Abruzzo and Molise, they should derive from toponyms such as Camarda (MT), ancient name of Bernalda, Camarda (AQ) or Camarda between Campania and Basilicata as can be understood from a text of the end of the 1400s: "... For Berardino de Bernaudo, for mercè et excambio de Fontanarosa, above tax payments of Monte Acuto et Camarda et above them casali de Cusencza by year ducats ... It comes from the Calabrian camarda = bush of bushes, from the late Greek kamarda = 'sort of tent'. The Greek voice also gave rise to the toponym Camarda in the province of Matera,
