CURTOLI | CURTOLO

Curtoli, almost unique, would seem Piedmontese, and is probably due to a wrong transcription of the surname Curtolo, which is typically Venetian from the Treviso area, from Breda di Piave, Conegliano, Treviso and Carbonera, it could derive from a nickname based on the archaic dialectal curtolo (type of hammer used by tinkers to smooth sheet metal), perhaps to indicate the ancestor's craft, but could also derive from a hypocoristic form of the dialectal term curto (short, low), perhaps indicating a physical characteristic of the progenitor.
