Ercole has a Neapolitan nucleus, one Roman and one in the Aquila area, there are also probably not secondary strains in the Genoese and in Piedmont, at least 4 stocks of Ercoli are identified, in Lazio, Umbria, Marche and Tuscany, Ercolini would seem typically Tuscan of the area that includes the provinces of Massa, Lucca and Pistoia, with stocks also in Milan and Rome, Ercolino is typical of Foggia and Avellino, with a stock also in Rome, could be derived, directly or through hypocorisms, from the cognomen Latin Herculius or from a medieval name Hercules.
