Foddai is typical of Sassari and its province of Sorso and Giave, with a stock also in Cagliari. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas FODDAI: (see Foddi) stands for foddani or foddanu probably in the meaning of foddèri, that is, a craftsman who makes bellows and always comes from fodde / i, and therefore from the Latin follis (mantice). Let us not forget, however, that in some parts of the island the leaves (of the trees) are called sa fodda for sa crowd which comes however from the Latin folia. Currently the surname is present in 76 Municipalities of the national territory, of which 25 in Sardinia. On the island the most widespread is recorded in the north. On the continent it is present in 3 Municipalities of Lazio (Rome 38), 5 of Liguria (Genoa 4), 4 of Piedmont (Turin 9), 9 of Lombardy (Milan 5), etc. In the USA we find it in only one State: New Jersey, with 1 family unit.
