FAILLI | FAILLO

Failli is typical of central-eastern Tuscany, Faillo is almost unique, can derive either from an apheresis of the medieval name Raphael or from modifications of the Latin cognomen Fabillus of which we have an example in De Vita Adriani: "... Nam usus est magistro Graeeco litteratore Fabillo, cuius epigrammata Graeca multa et extant, maxime in imaginibus ipsius pueri .... ", or from modifications of the nomen Flavilla.
