Fažana is typical of Cernobbio in the Como area, it should derive from a nickname originated from the dialectal word fasana (pheasant), perhaps to underline a noteworthy tendency to strut about as part of the progenitor, traces of this surname can be found in Lignana in Vercelli since the second half of 1200, when a Fazana founded the local hospital of Santa Maria, later called the Fasana.
