Fasani has two nuclei, one in the provinces of Milan and Pavia which should derive from a nickname linked to the dialectal term fasan (pheasant), and one in the provinces of Brescia and Verona, the latter, together with the Trentino lineage of Pomarolo and Rovereto of the surname Fasanelli, should derive from the toponym Fasano del Garda in the Brescia area, Fasanelli also has an Apulian strain in Canosa di Puglia and Noci in the Bari area and in Francavilla Fontana in the Brindisi area, together with Fasano, which should be typical of the south and in particular of Puglia, Campania and Calabria, should descend from toponyms such as Fasana in the Salerno or Fasano di Brindisi in Brindisi, from which the absolutely rare Fasanello, also from Puglia, should descend.
