Feo is typical of Campania and Basilicata, with stocks also in the Palermo area and in the Reggio area, Feola is typical of the Campania region, Feoli is specific to Lazio, Benevento and Avellino, should derive from a modification of the apheresis of the name Maffeo, of which we have an example in the second half of the 1200s in Siena with Feus filius Angelerii doctor of law and legal procurator: "... Appareat omnibus evidenter quod Feus filius Angelerii, procurator Jacobi Ranuccini et Neri ...", we find these surnames in a sentence of 1799 in Naples with a certain Francesco Feola from Procida.
