FIACCADORI

Fiaccadori is typical of the area between Mantua and Reggio Emilia, of Suzzara (MN), with significant presence, also in Mantua, also in Virgilio, Mantua and Curtatone and in the Reggio areas of Reggio Emilia, Guastalla, Scandiano and Castelnovo di Sotto, there are various hypotheses about the origin of this surname, a derivation from the trade of coachman or postiglione that is of fiacchere conductor (horse carriage, from the French fiacre), or more probably from the job of drainer or trainer of horses, but the most probable hypothesis is that derives from a deformation of the profession of flask producers. additions provided by Paolo Fiaccadori As far as I understand the Fiaccadori are currently concentrated between the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Mantua and above all in the area of Guastalla. My same great-grandfather (born in 1839) was from Pieve di Guastalla. Here, in the parish archive I found a Fiaccadori born on 21 April 1580. Some researches carried out by some of the family trace the name back to: Fiaccatori as manufacturers of torches, or to Fiaccatori as torches or trainers of wild horses
