ISIMBALDI | ISIMBARDI | USIMBARDI

Isimbaldi should have originated from a dialectal alteration of the surname Isimbardi, a noble Milanese family of Pavian origins, who were given the title of marquis, a surname now disappeared in Italy, as well as the Tuscan Usimbardi, they should all derive from the medieval name Isimbardo, originated from the Lombard name Isenbarth or Eisenbarth, in turn composed of the term isen or eisen (iron) and barth (beard), with the clear meaning of the one who wears an iron beard, we recall that the Palace occupied by the Government of the Lombardy Region is called Isimbardi Palace, we also remember Usimbardo Usimbardi, jurist and bishop of Colle Val d'Elsa in 1500.
