La Grutta has a Lucanian lineage in San Martino d'Agri in the Potentino area and a Sicilian one in Marsala, Mazara del Vallo and Trapani in the Trapani area and in Palermo, it should derive from the dialectal form of localities identified by the term Grotta, as they exist almost everywhere in Italy .
