LAGANA | LAGANA' | LAGANARA

Lagana is specific to Reggio Calabria, Laganà is the most widespread form, always from Reggio, but with significant presences also in eastern Sicily and in the rest of Calabria, Laganara, absolutely rare, it would seem Pugliese, should derive from the Greek word lacanas (orthodox), traces of these surnames we find them in Reggio Calabria in the first half of the 1600s with the notary Livio Laganà who on the 3rd May of the year 1640 drafted the act of taking possession of the Barony of Sambatello by the city of Reggio.
