The Torrata, almost unique, is due to errors in transcription of the surname Latorrata which is specific to the province of Taranto, Mottola, Palagiano, Massafra and Palagianello, and should derive from the toponym La Torrata, a very ancient town dating back to pre-Christian times, the whose name derives from the Torre Nova of the styes built in the mid-1500s by Tiberio Domini Roberti, feudal lord of the castle of Palagianello and the surrounding territories, it is therefore a nickname, attributed to the progenitor, indicating the place of origin of the same, the surname dates back to a period after the 16th century.
