It would seem to have originated from the Palermo area, it may descend from the toponym Levanzo of the Trapani area, but it could also be of Norman origin with the name Levan. hypothesis provided by Gianna Ferrari de Salvo the surname derives from the personal name Levantino, or from the Sicilian dialectal word livantinu (moody, whimsical, fickle) (Girolamo Caracausi, Dictionary of Sicily, Palermo 1994).
