Levoni is specific of the Modena area, of Modena, Castelnuovo Rangone, Maranello, Sassuolo and Formigine, it should derive from the medieval name Levonius, of which we have an example of use in a deed of 1214, where among the witnesses we can read: "..Ad cujus rei confirmationem presentis scripti paginam gifts I made seal meo aureo sealari, et Uleris rubeis mea manu scriptis own roboravì et approbatione jussi subscriptorum testium confirmari Hujus rei sunt testes: - Senescale p [ro] ximos Armenie - Levonius de biulum - Iozulinus frater marescalci. - Yalletus miles ... ".
