Quite rare it would seem to have two stocks, in the province of Imperia and in the Turin and Asti areas, it could derive from the Latin cognomen Natta, of which we have traces for example in the prayer of Cicero Pro Murena: "... Quid est volgo? Vniversos. Non igitur, yes L. Natta, summo loco adulescens, qui et quo animo iam sit et qualis vir futurus sit videmus, ... ". In the second half of the 12th century the Guelph family of the Natta family was a feudal lord in the Alessandria area and in 1190 it was the mayor of Asti Oberto Natta, a cadet of the Alessandria family.
