It is probable that the name derives from the Spanish region of Navarre and was taken by Marran Jews who moved to Northern Italy where they were goldsmiths in the Venetian territory. additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Navarotto, according to Olivieri 178, could derive not only from Navarra, but also from 'navariu' = nocchiero.
