ORSANIGO | ORSENIGO

Orsanigo, very very rare, is typically Lombard from Colle Brianza and Rovagnate in the Lecco area and Milan, Orsenigo, much more widespread is specific to the Como area, with Figino Serenza, Cantù, Carimate and Appiano Gentile, from the north of Milan, with Milan, Meda, Seveso, Carate Brianza, Nova Milanese, Bovisio Masciago and Monza, and of Calco in the Lecco area, should derive, directly or through a dialectal modification from the name of the town of Orsenigo nel comasco, toponym that should derive from the Latin cognomen Ursinus or from its predial derivative ager ursinicus (agricultural property of Orsino), much less likely a derivation from the Germanic name Ursinicus, we remember with this name a King of the Alemanni of the fourth century AD C.
