OTTELI | OTTELIO | OTTELLI

Both Otteli and Ottelio, by now almost disappeared, would seem to be of Friulian origin, but Ottelli, on the other hand, is very widespread in the Brescia area, they should derive from the medieval name of Germanic origin Ottelius, latinization of the names of Germanic origin Odel and Otelnis, of which we have an example in a plaque: "Hic iacet Odel Macheyt, filius Otelnis Macheyt, here fuit comes aquarum illustris principis domovis Ludovici, comitis Flandriae, here obiit year 1367 last die mensis februarii. Orate pro anima eius.", we find a trace of these surnames in Padua in 1500, when it appears that a certain Marcus Antonius Ottelius, Utinensis taught at the local University Schola de Pandectis. additions provided by Gabriella Bernardi Alvise Ottelio son of Zuanne, of the Bassano popular family, born in 1465, came to Udine shortly after 1500, from the first sources found, the family established their residence in the village of S.Lucia. His son Francesco n.1507 and +1570 was a collegiate notary of Udine. From his wife Francesca Nigris from Montereale +1578 he had numerous children, one of whom Marcantonio gave singular luster to the family. Born around 1550 he studied in Padua where in 1574 he took his degree in both laws. Returning to Udine, he was soon elected to read the Caesarean institutions, in which teaching he continued until 1586. In 1590 the Ottelio passed to read the Pandects and in 1600 he was promoted to the first chair of , who held for 25 years with much his praise and singular advantage of the Italian scholars, like foreigners, who flocked to his lectures. Rejoiced in 1625, he went to live in Venice, to be ready to make himself useful to the Government, if he had requested it from his enlightened council, but after 3 years, in 1628, he ended his long industrious life. In Padua, at the University of the Lawyers, he was placed an honorary tombstone under the sign, painted by his family. Of his brothers should be remembered, GioBatta, (notary registered in the notarial college of Udine in 1573 and the Civic Council in 1596 m. Lucrezia Pittoreo 1555), Girolamo (Doctor of laws born 1546 and +1582 m. 1581 Chiara of Valentino Stainero, had a son, Jerome, posthumously born and died in 1583) and Ottellio, all three worthy Latin jurists and experts, mentioned by Liruti in his "Notizie de 'letterati del Friuli".
