Palina is practically unique, Palini has a stock in the Brescia area, in Polaveno, Ome, Gardone Val Trompia, Lumezzane and Rovato, a small strain in Urbania in the Pesaro area and one in Umbria, in Bevagna and Foligno in the Perugia area and in Terni, Palino, extremely rare, it has some Neapolitan presences and in south-eastern Sicily, they could derive from contracted forms of the hypocoristic of the name Paolo, while in some cases they could derive from alterations of the Slavic name Balin (Valentino).
