RAZA

Raza is a specific surname of the Bresciano, in particular of Pezzaze, Marcheno, Gardone Val Trompia, Brescia, Villa Carcina and Sarezzo, it should be a matronymic and derive from the medieval female name Raza, of which we have traces in Lombardy at least from 1000, But it could also derive from a nickname originated from the medieval term raça o Raza (a variety of olive plant typical of the Gardesana area), or even from Raza (Flaming wheel with 8 or 10 rays used in some coats of arms viscontei).
