Both Spina and Spinelli are pan-Italian, Spinella is typically Sicilian, Palermitano, Messina and Catania in particular and Reggino, Spinello has a strain in Turin, perhaps due to immigration, a strain Veneto in Padua, Venetian and Rovigoto, and one In Sicily, especially in Nisseno, in the Ragusano, Syracusan and Catania, Spinetta is of the Genoese area, La Spezia and Massese, with presences also in the Alexandrian and Pavese and a strain also in the Trevisano, Spinetti is distributed in the area that includes the Savona, the Genovese, the Spezzino, the Massese, the Lucchese, the Pistoiese, the Pisano, the Leghorn and the Grossetano, with strains also in Lazio, in the Roman, Frusinate and Latinense, Spinetto is specific to Chiavari and Mezzanego in the Genoese, while Spini is properly Lombard, with a Strain also in Tuscany, should derive from the name Medieval Thorn, also through a hypochoristic, and from spinel, or even from the apheresis of the name Crispino and its diminutive, but they could also, in some cases, derive from toponyms such as: Spina in Perugino, Spinea in the Venetian, Spineda and Spino d'adda in the Cremonese, Spinete in the Campobassano, Spineto Scrivia in the Alexandrian, and so on many others.
