Etymological origin of Italian surname: Ursoleo

ORSOLEO | URSOLEO

Orsoleo, almost unique, is probably due to an ancient version of Ursoleo, which, typically Pugliese, is specific to the Tarantino, Sava, Taranto and Grottaglie, should derive from the Potentine area, near Roccanova, called Selva di Orsoleo, an ancient locality medieval, but it is also possible, although less likely that they may derive from the Latin name Ursuleus, which could be a hypocoristic form of the name Ursus, or even derive, by metathesis of -s- with -o-, from the Byzantine name ?? ???????
