Zirone has a small strain in Cagliari and a more consistent one in Syracuse, Noto and Avola Zironi is typically Emiliano, Bologna, Modena and Ferrara and Modena and Bolognese, should derive from the medieval name Zirone, a semi-dialectal form of the group name (see GROUP), or by names of city areas of which we have an example of use in this writing of the year 1158: ".. Unde in Præsenti Dominus ecelinus fecit fieri unum zironem in Anoale, et tres zirones in Mestre, Ubi suprastantibus et custodibus constitutis, et licentiato exercitu, reverse est ipse paduam.. ", or as the Contrada zirone of Legnago.
