The sculpture, of wiligelmica school, dates back to the first half of 1100; a little later, exactly in 1125, is the first citation, in Modenese papers, of the proper name Artusius. It is no coincidence that this Artusius "fìlius quondam Alberti" of Montebaranzone, which on 24 June 1125, donates land to the Modenese church, reveals its frank ancestry, professing to live according to the "Salic law". And the frank environment was precisely the vehicle through which the Breton knightly culture also entered Italy.
