Beneventi has an important Emilian nucleus, between Reggio and Modena, one in Comacchio in the Ferrara area and one in Lucania in Castelmezzano (PZ) and surroundings, Benevento has a nucleus in Campania, a lineage in the Potentino and one in northern Calabria, the Campano family could derive from the toponym Benevento, Benivento, practically unique, it should be a transcription error of the previous one, in all other cases they should derive from the medieval auspicious name Beneventus (good event), of which we have an example in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy under the year 1148 where among the witnesses of a deed appears: "Ego Beneventus presbiter ac prepositus interfui et a me facto subscripsi." or in a charta oblationis bell from 1198, where we read: "... nunc habent de suis lignaminibus casam hedificatam Beneventus clericus and Nicolaus dictus de Ysa Germani ...". We find traces of this surname in San Miniato (PI) in 1500 with the criminal notary Livio Beneventi of Pierangelo from San Gimignano.
