CUCCIARI

Cucciari has a stock in Gallura, in Arzachena, Olbia, Sant'Antonio in Gallura and Luogosanto, with a stock also in Sassari and one in Rome. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas CUCCIARI: cucciàri = spoon. From the ancient Spanish cuchàr; Piedmontese Cuciàr. Here in Campidano cullèra, from the Catalan cullèra (cutzèra). Cucciarìnu, coccerìnu = teaspoon. Cucceròni, cocceròni = spoonful, ladle, which here in Campidano we call otherwise sa turra, from the Latin trulla? trudda? turùdda? turra. The surname could refer to a manufacturer of spoons (of wood!). Here in Campidano the wooden spoon (generally of heather) we call it on cragallu (in Campidano); corcariu, corcardzu (in central Sardinia) Corcàriu derives from the Latin coclearium; but (in our opinion), not cragàllu. For this we suggest a word composed of cra '-' e-callu = large wooden spoon (spatula) to mix the rennet (su callu, from the Latin coàgulum), in copper pots (is caddaxus), to make cheese. In the ancient documents in our possession, the surname Cucciàri is not present. Currently we find it in 25 Italian Municipalities, of which 14 in Sardinia: Arzachena 36, Olbia 28, SA di Gallura 18, Luogosanto 18, Sassari 15, etc.
