GIROLAMI | GIROLAMO

Girolami is typical of central Italy, of central-western Tuscany, of Perugia and Piceno, with an autonomous nucleus also in the procincts of Rome and Frosinone, Girolamo, very rare, is a native of the area on the border between Brindisi and Bari, deriving from the late Latin name Girolamus; Sanctus Girolamus lives towards the end of the 300s. We find traces of these surnames in Florence in the 1300s, as we read in the New Chronicles of Muratori: "... in the Via di Porta Santa Maria erected the Girolami consorts of a masculine line of the blessed Messer San Zanobi , who was bishop of our city of Fiorenza ... ".
